West Ham fans will love who was spotted celebrating in dressing room after big Newcastle win

West Ham fans will love who was spotted celebrating with the team in the dressing room after the shock vital win over Newcastle United.

The special guest’s presence after the final whistle summed up the renewed spirit and unity that Nuno Espirito Santo has been trying to instil in his squad.

West Ham recorded a vital and surprise 3-1 win over Newcastle United to breathe new life into their bid for Premier League survival.

It has been an abysmal season so far for the Hammers, who looked to have hit rock bottom in defeats to Brentford and Leeds.

Especially after Nuno made a raft of puzzling changes which completely backfired.

West Ham breathe new life into season with shock win

Not only did the changes show West Ham’s alarming lack of quality in depth in key areas, it also raised doubts over Nuno’s ability as a manager to turn the sinking ship around.

The head coach’s team selections for the damaging defeats even sparked speculation he may be the latest Hammers boss to face an early exit.

When the game against Newcastle rolled around, nobody gave West Ham a hope.

Especially as Eddie Howe’s powerful and aggressive side came to the London Stadium off the back of three straight wins against Benfica, Fulham and Spurs.

However, the Hammers put in their best performance of the season and arguably of the last two years to come from behind and win 3-1.

The victory not only closed the gap on next opponents Burnley to three points, but it showed West Ham do have the talent in the team to avoid relegation.

Key to everything, as Nuno has been keen to point out since the day he arrived, is unity and the players coming together and fighting for one another.

Team spirit was the foundation the entire David Moyes era was built on at West Ham.

It is hard to build that kind of connection in a team when they are losing week in, week out.

The resilience on display when the Hammers fell behind immediately after hitting the post on four minutes was hugely encouraging.

So too were the celebrations of the players when West Ham scored their goals.

But the biggest indicator of the team spirit Nuno is building in east London was captured on camera after the game.

One of the many bizarre changes made by Nuno of late included bringing young left-back Ollie Scarles into the starting XI from absolutely nowhere.

Scarles has barely been seen since being schooled by Mo Salah in West Ham’s defeat to Liverpool at Anfield earlier this year.

Worse still Scarles was brought in to play out of position at right-back in place of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Despite the move completely backfiring in a dismal defeat to Brentford, Nuno repeated it against Leeds.

Once again it did not work and this time poor Scarles was withdrawn due to injury after fracturing his collar bone.

The 19-year-old sustained the injury after landing heavily following a challenge in the 2-1 loss at Elland Road.

Scarles being with team in full sling bodes well for West Ham team spirit

Surgery was needed and went well with December set as a vague date for Scarles’ return to first team action.

But it showed the togetherness and spirit Nuno is building in the squad that Scarles was spotted going into the changing room with his Hammers teammates with his arm and shoulder in a full sling.

That didn’t stop him showing his passion for the Hammers by celebrating as he entered the changing room.

It is a lovely sight after what has been a painful time for everyone connected with West Ham.

You can check out the must-watch footage in the post below.

Scarles could be sat at home sulking about how his latest chance in the first team has gone or the fact he has picked up a painful injury.

Instead he was with his teammates, cheering them on and celebrating like he had just come off the pitch himself.

As much as talent and quality will be key to West Ham staying up this season, it is this kind of camaraderie that will be just as crucial.

Long may it continue.
