West Ham’s second most important player responds to fears he has suffered new injury

Graham Potter lost Niclas Fullkrug and Crysencio Summerville to injury as soon as he took over at West Ham and there have been fears the same has happened to Nuno Espirito Santo.

West Ham face one of the most important months of their entire season when Premier League action resumes on Monday night.

The Hammers find themselves in the bottom two of the table a fifth of the way through the new campaign after Graham Potter’s dismal reign.

There have been real signs of encouragement in the first two games under Nuno Espirito Santo, a 1-1 draw at Everton and a far more competitive showing than usual in a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal.

Fullkrug and Summerville injury deja vu fears for West Ham

West Ham simply must start picking up wins between Monday and the November international break, though.

The Hammers face Brentford, Leeds, Newcastle and Burnley with three of those matches coming at home.

Seven or eight points has to be the target if Nuno wants to start pulling away from the danger zone.

Given West Ham’s paper-thin squad, he will need every player in order to do that.

But he already looks set to be without the man he has chosen as his starting striker, Niclas Fullkrug.

West Ham have been rocked by a new Fullkrug injury blow after the German tore a group of thigh muscles in training over the break.

Fullkrug is expected to be out for several weeks at the very least and possibly won’t be seen until after the November break as he adds to the catalogue of serious injuries which have blighted his career.

There are echoes of when Potter first took over at West Ham about the Fullkrug injury.

In his first game as Hammers boss, Potter lost both Fullkrug and Crysencio Summerville to serious injuries.

The blows would keep Fullkrug out for three months and flying Dutchman Summerville sidelined for eight months after he required surgery.

Summerville responds to fears he has suffered new injury

West Ham fans were fearful something may have happened to Fullkrug when he was not featured in extensive training footage released by the club over the break.

So there was an impending sense of doom and deja vu when Summerville was nowhere to be seen too.

Now Summerville has responded to concern among West Ham fans that he has suffered a new injury setback.

A leading Nottingham Forest journalist claimed Nuno will make Summerville world class for West Ham.

There have already been signs he will do just that.

Summerville is undoubtedly now West Ham’s most important player behind Jarrod Bowen.

With those two in the side, playing Nuno’s counter-attacking style, the Hammers have hope.

West Ham used an image of the winger training as the picture on an article housing video footage from training over the weekend.

But Summerville was nowhere to be seen in the actual footage published by West Ham’s media team.

The same was true of Fullkrug who it has since been confirmed has suffered that new injury.

West Ham don’t communicate injury news with fans.

So Fullkrug’s latest blow only came to light because Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann revealed he tried to call the Hammers forward up as a late replacement for another forward in his latest squad.

That sparked fears something had happened to Summerville too.

Especially as some Hammers fans were convinced they saw him hobbling in the latter stages against Arsenal.

But now the Hammers star has responded to the fears by posting a series of pictures on social media.

And his update will come as a big relief to supporters.

Last night Summerville posted a series of pictures showing himself in full training with West Ham.

He even shared an image of himself in the sauna at the club’s Rush Green training base.

In the 11-picture update, Summerville also included an image of himself with close friends Jean-Clair Todibo and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

There are also a couple of motivational quotes used including ‘Dream It. Believe It. Achieve It’ and ‘You can’t break the broken’.

So it seems Summerville either wasn’t captured on camera in the footage that raised these fears.

Or it could be he was given a rest that session as he is still only relatively recently back from eight months out with a very serious injury.

This is a massive shot in the arm ahead of the crucial Brentford game at the London Stadium on Monday night.
