Incredible scenes unfolding at West Ham over Nuno Espirito Santo after controversial revelation

Incredible scenes are unfolding at West Ham over Nuno Espirito Santo after a controversial revelation following the sacking of Graham Potter.

West Ham were expected to sack Graham Potter after the defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend.

On Monday it was claimed Nuno Espirito Santo becoming the new Hammers boss was all but done.

But West Ham’s owners caused a stir when they waited until 48 hours out from a trip to Everton before wielding the axe.

Potter had even taken his pre-match press conference for the reunion with David Moyes.

Shock at timing as Potter bombed out of West Ham

Less than 24 hours later, Potter found himself out of a job.

Hammers News revealed the two reasons West Ham sacked Potter so abruptly ahead of Everton.

West Ham have stated that results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of this campaign have ‘not matched expectations’.

The Hammers board say they believe a change was necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.

West Ham’s board were heavily criticised for the way they handled David Moyes’ departure from the club last year.

Moyes has since revealed David Sullivan withdrew a contract offer when he wanted to negotiate over certain aspects of it to make sure it was ‘right for me and my family’.

West Ham then proceeded to host high-profile meetings with a host of managers, including Ruben Amorim, leading to Moyes banning Tim Steidten from the training ground.

The Hammers hierarchy were blasted by fans, journalists and pundits alike for the way they then handled the departure of Moyes’ successor Julen Lopetegui.

Lopetegui selflessly took charge of West Ham just days after the death of his father.

But when it came to handling his sacking, the Hammers did not show the same level of class.

It was leaked that Steidten had met with Potter and that Lopetegui was to be sacked.

However, West Ham let Lopetegui take training on the day he was relieved of his duties.

Now the Hammers have gone one better – or should that be worse.

The Hammers released their surprisingly-timed Potter statement at around 10am on Saturday.

While that was happening, Nuno took West Ham training for the first time at Rush Green.

That was BEFORE West Ham had even made any official announcement of the Portuguese’s inevitable arrival.

Now, five hours later and with claims about Nuno taking training rife on social media, West Ham have come out and confirmed that was the case.

Worse still, talkSPORT have claimed that Sullivan made the decision overnight while on holiday in Spain, leaving Potter to inform his ‘shocked players’ this morning before they were handed straight over to Nuno.

Hammers confirm Nuno took training same day Potter sacked

In announcing the arrival of the former Nottingham Forest boss on a three-year deal, West Ham have admitted Nuno did put his new team through their paces after the announcement Potter had been sacked.

While Potter can have no real complaints having been in Nuno’s shoes when replacing Lopetegui, the news is sure to be another black mark on the owners.

“The São Tomé-born new head coach took training at Rush Green on Saturday afternoon ahead of the trip to the Hill Dickinson stadium on Monday evening,” West Ham said in a statement.

“Nuno will be assisted in the interim by Academy coaches Mark Robson, Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville and Billy Lepine, with a further announcement on his coaching and backroom staff to be made in due course.

“Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Nuno to the Club and wish him every success for his career in Claret and Blue.”

It may be West Ham fans are immune to such revelations by now.

But make no mistake this is not normal behaviour at most professional football clubs, let alone those operating at the top level the planet has to offer.

Whether the Hammers remain there now rests with Nuno, who knows exactly what he is getting himself into.
