Iron Man
KeymasterSome West Ham United fans have reacted on Twitter to The Athletic’s report that David Moyes could bring West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to the London Stadium for around £7.5 million this summer.
The Hammers should be looking at bolstering his goalkeeping options over the course of the next 12 months.
Lukasz Fabianski and Darren Randolph will be 36 and 34 respectively before the start of next season. Neither of them are particularly reliable from a fitness perspective either.
West Ham do have some talented youngsters amongst their ranks in the form of Joseph Anang, Nathan Trott and Krisztian Hegyi. None of them are anywhere near ready to be playing regular first-team football in the Premier League, however.
Sam Johnstone (Photo by Clive Rose/Getty Images) And Johnstone would surely be an excellent addition for the Hammers. Especially for just £7.5 million.
The 28-year-old moved to the Hawthorns from Manchester United in the summer of 2018 for around £6.5 million (The Athletic).
And Johnstone has been a real hit with West Brom. In 123 games for the Baggies, he has let in 166 goals whilst keeping 29 clean sheets in the process (Transfermarkt).
The Baggies ace is at a great age for a goalkeeper.
He probably has eight years or so left at the highest level. £7.5 million for his services seems like absolute peanuts.
Some West Ham United fans have taken to Twitter in reaction to the report claiming that West Brom stopper Sam Johnstone could be signed for a bargain fee this summer…

Absolutely, cup goalkeeper for a year and then replaces Fabianski.

£7.5m?? Definitely all for this, some deal.
Love Fabs but he’s only got a season or two left. Don’t wait until he needs to be replace, press on and be prepared. Something we’re notoriously terrible at..
