West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan’s love life has been making headlines this weekend.
According to the likes of The Sun, West Ham’s billionaire owner Sullivan, 72, left his partner of 25 years Emma Benton-Hughes – mother to their two sons Dave and Jack – last October.
And The Sun claims Sullivan proposed to reality TV star Ampika Pickston, 40, back in July.
But many West Ham fans have been quick to point out on social media that his ex Benton-Hughes was made a Hammers director in January.
The Times reported Benton-Hughes – along with other members of Sullivan and fellow co-owner David Gold’s family – were given director roles at West Ham to circumnavigate restrictions meaning they could attend matches during lockdown.
Given Sullivan and Benton-Hughes have split, many West Ham supporters are understandably asking what that could mean for the club.
The Times approached West Ham at the time for a comment but the club declined.
West Ham insiders Claret and Hugh have direct links to the Sullivan and fellow co-owner Gold.
And they have moved to clear up the situation, claiming Benton-Hughes was removed from the directors list last month.
“Her directorship of West Ham alongside those of others who were temporarily added were terminated in papers submitted to companies house last month.”
With PAI Capital hovering in the background at West Ham, fans are also wondering whether Sullivan’s change in personal circumstances could have a bearing on whether he sells up in the near future.
Particularly after PAI told The Sunday Times last week that they were confident they would have ‘very positive news soon’ on an ‘innovative second bid’.
There is nothing to suggest that is the case. But PAI have been silent in the week since.
