Departed West Ham star’s dig at Moyes’ methods is being proved right

Departed West Ham star Said Benrahma’s dig at David Moyes’ methods is being proved right in painful fashion.

It’s always been pretty clear that David Moyes and Said Benrahma were very much chalk and cheese at West Ham.

It was a forced footballing marriage which was never going to really work.

And while Benrahma helped the Hammers along their journey under Moyes in recent years, he never truly realised his promise.

A skilful maverick capable of utterly mesmerising moments of magic, Benrahma looked a shadow of his true self for long periods under the Scot.

Benrahma’s dig at Moyes’ methods being proved right

Moyes’ demands on players like Benrahma from a defensive perspective can take the edge off their game.

Benrahma also looked more worried about losing the ball than making something happen for much of his time at West Ham.

It was no surprise when Benrahma left to join Lyon in the winter window.

And no sooner was he out the door than a barb was aimed West Ham’s way.

The Algerian has been criticised for comments about the lack of intensity in training under Moyes.

Benrahma questioned Hammers intensity

Speaking to Lyon’s official website, Benrahma said it has been a long time since he trained at the intensity Lyon.

He said: “The infrastructure is magnificent here. There are not many clubs that have such facilities, there is everything to work well. Training went very well, we worked hard, but we worked in a very good mood and in a good atmosphere. It’s been a long time since I trained with the intensity of training at OL. It’s impressive, and I can’t wait to play on the field.”

Many fans felt it was a cheap shot from Benrahma.

But it is clearly being proved true after the 6-0 humbling against Arsenal.

West Ham have looked well off the pace of late.

West Ham not fit for purpose

The players had the excuse of being tired in the first half of the season with so many games.

But the Hammers have no excuses so far in what has been a quiet 2024 fixture wise.

Moyes’ side lack any intensity whatsoever in games. Even Sheffield United and Bournemouth looked so much fitter than most of West Ham’s players in recent games.

And Arsenal were simply on another level altogether. West Ham did not lay a glove on the Gunners and looked completely lethargic throughout.

Moyes must get this side working their tails off in training and the intensity at Rush Green should match that needed on a matchday.

You don’t even need to look at any statistics because the good old fashioned eye test suffices of late.

What was served up against Arsenal was simply inexcusable and not fit for purpose. Quite literally.
